NaNoWriMo 2021 will be the first NaNoWriMo that I have ever decided to do. I have never ventured into this arena, because I thought I lacked the discipline to sit down every day and force myself to write a novel.
That all changed with an online poetry class during COVID lockdown. I wrote at least a poem a day for approximately two weeks. It was wonderful, liberating, and fun!
This NaNoWriMo, I have decided that I would like to write enough poetry/haikus to fill a book, by the month’s end. This would not be just any book of poetry, but a novel that is written in verse. Each poem linking to the next, winding through the characters’ lives to draw them together… Wait… Spoilers.
NaNoWriMo 2021 will be a journey into myself. I want to see if I can be determined enough to live my dreams and create the novel, the poetry, the music of lilting words that will flow across the page. Perhaps it will be less than thrilling, but if I don’t start, I can’t succeed.
I don’t want to sit here saying, “2021 was not my year. Let’s push that forward a bit.” No! If there is one thing I have learned from COVID it is that if you have dreams, grab them. Toss the words on the page, and work it ‘til it feels right. This journey into myself needs to happen soon if I want to see my dream novel become reality.
This personal journey will be an adventure. Every adventure needs a guide, a coach, and a naysayer to keep you on track. We can be those for each other. There is safety in numbers, and if you are afraid to start the journey, grab one of us and jump into the void!
We are there to catch you, even if I am a newbie. Who is going to join me on this epic quest into the darkness that lies beneath? Wait… Spoilers!
