The Jerrie Mock Podcast – Season 2, Episode 1, Now Live!
Who was the first woman to fly around the world? That’s right…not Amelia Earhart. It was, in fact, our editor-in-chief’s grandmother, Jerrie Mock. We’d like to introduce you to Jerrie and the Jerrie Mock Podcast.
Last year, Rita produced a 32-day podcast journey traveling along Jerrie’s flight path around the world, each day of her flight in 1964. Now, Rita’s teaming up with the other MockingOwls to produce new episodes monthly, diving into Jerrie’s other accomplishments, including other world records, flights, and adventures you haven’t heard about before.
If you want all the intrigue, sandstorms, family legend, and dangers from Jerrie’s flight around the world, give a listen to season 1. You’ll trek from Columbus, Ohio to Bermuda, the Azores, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and all the way back in 29 days with Jerrie. Then, dive into the new season with a more in-depth look at the woman who made history, boosted women’s rights, and still inspires women pilots today.
Each episode is unique, shares different aspects of Jerrie as a person, her life, and the lives of those she’s impacted. This season, you’ll hear interviews with Jerrie’s most recent publishers (for her book Three Eight Charlie), women pilots who knew her, other pilots she inspired, museum curators who care for her legacy at the Smithsonian and Smithsonian affiliate sites, as well as readings from books and articles by Rita on her grandmother.
If you enjoy short podcasts, true stories, history, aviation, or strong women, you’ll love this podcast by Rita Mock-Pike.
