Dark green background, covered in sparkling stars and flecks. Three framed images -- a baby, a young woman, an elderly woman. - TEXT: Duane Anderson, In the Eyes of New Year's Day - Poetry

                      I am New Year’s Day
                      for a short twenty-four hours;
ready to give everyone a fresh start in life
as my life begins seconds before
my predecessor’s life comes to an end
after the countdown on New Year’s Eve.
If you wish to make a New Year’s resolution,
to help you with your life going forward, go ahead.

I may smile when you achieve them,
and laugh when you ignore them,
and as the days and months pass by,
when I am no longer a young baby,
and have reached the end of my life,
will you get together again on New Year’s Eve
to attend my funeral because your life
was good for you during our time together?

Or would you be glad that I will soon be leaving
for all the terrible things that may have happened?
At the end of my stint, I will become
another ancestor like those that came before me,
so as we get together one last time
to celebrate all of the good times,
I want to wish you all the best going forward
with the successor that follows my footsteps.

All things new in the new year! Celebrate a clean slate and move forward with new delights, goals, and wonder!
