We are the MockingOwl Roost, a friendly collective of goofy owls (or humans, if we must) who love reading, sharing, and publishing stories from authors of any/all backgrounds. We’ve been doing this for four years now, with creative works from authors and artists from 45+ countries. We delight in publishing fiction, creative nonfiction, essays, poetry, audio dramas, photography, artwork, poetry readings, and anything else creative that encourages different perspectives, wonder, and challenging thought.

And now we’ve come to the place where we’re ready to seek long-term sponsorship and advertisers to afford us the opportunity to pay both our staff and our contributors. But since we all have lives and full-time jobs, we haven’t been able to make that push. So, this one-time fundraiser aims to garner enough money to cover our immediate overhead expenses (which have come from our own personal funds thus far) and the time needed to permit our staff to develop and execute that long-term financial plan.

This GoFundMe fundraiser covers:

• Covering the immediate costs for our website and hosting along with the other tools needed to keep the website alive and social media more active.
• Purchasing a business license so we can legally pay staff and contributors and start publishing our awesome books, run live productions, etc.
• Creating financial space and time for staff to seek the sponsorships that will enable our long-term funding programs.

Our long-term financial plans includes:

• Opening a membership area containing bonus materials, backstage insights, in-depth creator content, and more. The initial launch will occur around December 1, 2024.
• Offering both in-person and virtual events such as workshops and performances.
• Seeking sponsors and advertisers that fit the overall vision of who the MockingOwl Creatives are.
• Opening the MockingOwl Publishing House through which to publish books by staff and non-agented authors, as well as anthologies, scripts, and more for a broader creative reach.
• Offering additional editing, coaching, and similar creative services. (NOTE: This will not impact the editing MockingOwl Roost does for the magazine or blog.)
• Additional fun, inviting, and intriguing opportunities for staff, regular contributors, and others to get involved in the community.
