Love Me Some Matcha: A PureChimp Rooibos Matcha Review
Green tea matcha and Rooibos are both brilliantly lovely teas I adore. They’re my two favorite hot beverage options. So, when I saw a combination concept available for my July tea review, I hopped right on: PureChimp Rooibos Matcha.
When the tiny little powder-filled jar arrived, I realized it was pure Rooibos in powder form, not a combo of Rooibos and green tea matcha, so I decided I’d give it a whirl in multiple different forms this month to see how I like it best.
Flavor Profile
For a true look at the flavor profile of Rooibos, I recommend reading my Bos Rooibos review. Generally, though, Rooibos is an earthy, slightly sweet, “wild” tasting red tea (no caffeine, naturally) that blends really well with milk and a hint of sugar, or, as I prefer it, straight up.
Preparing Your PureChimp Matcha
You might think it’s ridiculous – I certainly did at first – but how you prepare any form of matcha (i.e. powdered tea) matters. The PureChimp Rooibos matcha suggests you use a half teaspoon blended with a “splash” of cold water, then flesh out the cup with hot water.
Initially, I skipped their directions and made it like traditional matcha, complete with the matcha bowl, whisk, and scoop. I liked it this way. Almost as much as usual Rooibos in a bag.
I then opted to mix a half-and-half mix of Rooibos matcha and green tea matcha (since that’s what I had sort of expected this to be), making it as I would traditional matcha. I absolutely loved this!
I also made the Rooibos matcha as directed on the jar, both with room temperature water and with chilled water. The chilled water version was better and ultimately the second best way to prepare it.
Whichever way I make it, this Rooibos matcha is a delight! And since it’s caffeine-free, you can enjoy it any time of the day.
