Tea Review: A Lovely Cuppa Cake
So, November is my birth month and I happen to be a lemon lover. So, when I came across the Republic of Tea’s special bagged tea: Cuppa Cake tea (lemon), I knew it had to be my November tea to review.
Even with a bit of a cold/flu for most of the month of November, I enjoyed the aroma of the tea as much as the taste. The delectable tea is soft yet cake-y in ways I wouldn’t have thought possible in a green rooibos, gluten-free cake-flavored tea.
Flavor Profile for Cuppa Cake Tea
The tea is an herbal selection (rooibos is naturally caffeine-free) but it doesn’t have the earthy bitterness I so often associate with fruited herbal teas. Instead, the tea has a rich, yet delicate, aroma and flavor that sends my taste buds into heaven.
As the label suggests, this tea is for sipping, not gulping. The delicate blend of coconut, green rooibos, lemon, and vanilla blurs together with perfection. You both can and cannot distinguish the flavors. It’s sort of an odd sensation, but that perfect blur winds up making this one of the best dessert teas I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying.
Impressions
Admittedly, I’d never heard of green rooibos. This means it’s a “fresher” picked rooibos that hasn’t been as heavily roasted or aged as the traditional red rooibos. Surprisingly, it’s described as being “more bitter.” I don’t find it bitter at all! But, then again, I’ve only ever drunk it in this fruity cuppa cake tea concoction.
I can’t say this replaces other favorites in the fruit tea category, but it definitely ranks high among them, right next to them on the shelf. I wouldn’t drink it every day, partially so that I have some in stock to enjoy on special occasions and partially because it is truly a dessert tea.
I highly recommend it for that sipping and contemplating moment or that evening of celebration when you want something delightful, delicate, and stimulant-free.
