The instant the tea arrived, I headed to the kitchen, turned on the kettle, and waited for the bubbles. Lifting the lid of the tea tin, I knew instantly that delicate Christmas-y delight lay in store for my soul. Sip and Be Merry from the Republic of Tea could only offer all I had hoped for…
And indeed, it’s the perfect choice for snuggling by the fire on a holiday evening or celebratory night.
Flavor Profile
A naturally sweet, almost creamy tea, the Sip and Be Merry leans hard into an aromatic vanilla and cardamom, mingled with a lighter black tea. The smooth tea is like a cup of Christmas cheer without all the calories!
The label suggests adding a hint of milk to up the flavor to a crème brûlée flavor. That combo exactly does it, delightfully. This cuppa from The Republic of Tea is definitely a holiday flavor with a sweet dessert finish. But it’s delectable any time of year.
Overall Impressions
I love this tea! It’s a surprisingly delicate flavor, despite it being a black tea with several distinctive “heavy” notes. The sweet tinge without calories makes it the perfect light treat. Add the milk and it’s a decadent dessert, no other sweets necessary.
It’s even delicious when served cold. My first cup cooled off quickly and the aroma and flavor are just as powerful as when hot. In fact, I’d almost suggest it as an iced tea, but I think it would work better as a blended drink than standard iced tea.
Sip and Be Merry Tea Rating: 4.8 out of 5
The only reason this earns a 4.8 instead of 5 is because the flavor is rather delicate and may be hard to savor for some folks because of the lightness. The black tea seems “faint” for such a beverage and therefore drinking it and savoring it requires a little bit more concentration than most teas. For some, this is a bonus, but others it may be a minor step back.
