                      Last Words - Elizabeth

Photo of Elizabeth when she and Rita visited Russia in 2007, the place where Elizabeth felt called to serve as a missionary

Some dates resonate through history. 9-11 will ever be a date the world remembers. But 9-11 will ever be a date remembered by those who knew and loved Elizabeth Lynn Glovier. Not a victim of 9-11 but a victim of time, circumstance, and untreated mental illness. Her passing coincides with this international remembrance date – and her family and friends have feared her loss would be lost within. It hasn’t. It never will. Not for those who loved her best.

Last Words – Elizabeth, written & performed by Rita Mock-Pike

“I love you and I always will.”
Last words spoken between dearest of friends
                      parting ways unknown.
                      Hope lingered therein,
that one day no more need for “always” would come
                      – only the existence of that fact would overtake
                      by revisited presence and love.

“I love you and I always will.”
Last words like broken record play on repeat
                      decade past your departure
and no more hope of retraction.
One illness took you to the streets
while another – unnamed and unknown –
took your life and now, no hope
                      of revisited presence and love.

“I love you and I always will.”
A dark canyon filled with echoed repeats
                      truer words spoken
                      never could be.
                      Still shaking, vibrating with pain,
                      the words replay heavy,
recall a Beatles’ song: “he ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.”
                      The burden was heavy
                      I almost broke.

But “I love you and I always will”
                      resonates still.

                      You weren’t a burden.
                      We almost broke.

                      We did break.

                      But those words heal.
                      Even now, eleven years past,
                      those words still heal.
You weren’t heavy, you’re my sister:
“I love you and I always will.”

“I love you and I always will.”
