There’s a tea bag I’ve had in my tea organizer for quite some time. It’s the last of the box and one I haven’t drunk very often that I might savor it. Today, though, I ripped open that last shiny foil and brewed myself a cuppa: Golden Kiwi tea from Greenfield. It was time to indulge in that last cup and offer my thoughts on the fruity black tea.

                      History of the Tea

I first found the Greenfield tea brand in a Polish grocery in the greater Chicago area. I often visit these little, locally owned, culturally-focused shops because of the unique and flavorful imports they offer. My first instinct is to rush to the tea aisle and I am never disappointed.

Greenfield doesn’t tell us much about their history, but the company is a UK-based company that has a website in both English and Russian languages. This explains why I often find the brand in Ukrainian groceries, as well, as the tea is possibly available there.

The brand offers a host of teas, “pure, premium” as their branding, with intentional nuances in their various flavored and pure teas. I’ve drunk several of their offerings and agree with that self-statement: the flavors are intentional and rich.

                      Flavor Profile

The Golden Kiwi tea is a black tea with dehydrated fruit added, and golden kiwi flavoring added. The tea has an almost spicy edge to it when you sip. It’s a moderate to mild edge, though. And the actual fruit used in the tea is pineapple, not kiwi, which is where the edge comes from.

It’s a rich, black tea flavor with strong fruit foretaste and aftertaste. The flavor lingers on the tongue, leaving behind an indistinct impression of eating golden kiwi fruit.

The tea pairs well with milder biscuits and granola bars. Anything else may override the edge of fruitiness in the tea.

                      My Impressions

Overall, the golden kiwi tea is a delicacy that I love to enjoy every few months. It’s not an everyday tea for me because it should be savored and drunk with just the right mood hovering over my spirit.

                      Service Recommendations

I would recommend this tea for a tea tasting, tea party, the occasional morning tea treat, or as an iced tea with a hint of zing.

I almost never add sugar to tea, so my impressions are without sugar, I’ll note – and do not recommend adding sugar to this one, ever. It’s strong enough to give the right flavoring but mild enough that sugar could override the profile and take away the pleasant mild spiciness to it.
