So, I’m still working my way through this book, taking each step into account, participating in each activity, doing each task along the way. But I felt it was worth writing the review before finishing up my own journey with it – to get this book into the hands of others.

Your Goal Guide by Debra Eckerling thematically takes you on a “road trip” to the discovery of your true goals in life and maps out plans and methods for getting you there. It’s a great self-improvement project, certainly, but more, I feel like this book provides struggling artists and creatives (known to themselves as such or not!) with some powerful steps and beneficial tools to make the road trip from floundering to finding joy in the creation and meeting of goals.

The book is hardly an end-all to the battle of finding your “happy place” in life, but it certainly is a useful method for taking some steps to further your way.

Crafted with care, the relatable text isn’t your ordinary “self-help book,” but rather a journey in itself, leading the reader (hopefully actor!) along the way at whatever pace you’re able and desiring to take.

The book has two main sections: Setting Up Your Road Trip and Rules of the Road. Section one focuses on figuring out where you’re at, where you’d like to be, and what your dreams are in tangible form. The second section focuses on how to get to those dreams and that “final destination” of accomplishing your goals, whatever they are, including ways to fight against distractions (detours/blockades), maintain balance, and enjoy the journey itself.

As I mentioned, I’m still going through the book, applying the principles myself, but I highly recommend anyone looking for a bit of help finding focus and setting realistic, wonderful goals would benefit from this engaging read.
