The Cat’s Value
She knows her name
but refuses to come.
She flicks tail
and brushes legs.
She knows her worth
she knows her value.
She’s cuddly and soft,
sweet and desirable,
other days mean and cranky
yet she’s loved.
How do we humans
not see our worth?
Cats know theirs and they’re rude
and angry for no reason some days.
Yet we love and adore them
and yearn for their independence
as if it were our own.
Take a lesson from Stardust
this fluffy gray beast to which I am indentured
and live in slight fear.
Not to be angry, no,
not to be rude and mean.
But to know your worth
your value
your esteem.
God created her
He created you.
You’re just as valuable as she – or more!
(just don’t tell her that).
