It’s that time of year — when the ghouls come out to play with the creepy twins in the shadows of that old house on the hill. You know the one. Where the family gets all “creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky…” Yes, it’s October and time to get your ooky Halloween books list ready to indulge in some spooky fun!

Below you’ll find a collection of some of the best Halloween books suited to just about any liking. Admittedly, I’m a particular fan of cozy mysteries, so you’ll find plenty of those afoot, but I’ve also included some titles ranked by others as the best of the best for the season in a different vein.

11 Best Halloween Books for October 2025

                      Seven Year Witch

Delving into the wonderful whimsy of witchy wonder and the cozy charm of a small town, Seven Year Witch brings readers to Wilfred, Oregon for a spooky time.

The new librarian, Josie Way, is finding her new job in the town a bit tough, despite the town’s wealth of charm. And more, her new fledgling spell-binding powers are a real trip! Add in a murder and, well… You’ve got a cozy mystery fit for any Halloween reading list.

The Cafe Between Pumpkin and Pie

A Café Between Pumpkin and Pie offers a cozy read for those looking for some Halloween fun. The three stories in the book reside in the small town of Moonbright, Maine, where the annual Halloween parade brings life with excitement and hospitality.

The festive book weaves its way through three magical, romantic tales set here, with the promise of lots of sweet cider, delightful treats, and a few intriguing tricks — all while the ladies look for love, enjoy fresh-baked pies, and meander along dreamy walks through the falling leaves.

                      The Witch and the Wildwood

Let a real-life witch be your guide through the magic and mystery of the wildwood in The Witch and the Wildwood. As you read, you’ll discover folklore, fairy tales, and witches — both real and fictional — as you go. The stories date from ancient times to modern, with the Wild Woman as the archetypical director to your reclamation of the magic of it all.

Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide

Yes, that Mrs. Claus. And yes, she’s living it up in the cozy mystery world of homicides and holidays in this charming little book, Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide. The novel comes as the second installment in a series by Liz Ireland. In the series, April Claus, the newlywed wife of Nick Claus, serves up a heaping helping of Halloween at the North Pole.

The light-hearted murder mystery follows the town’s adventures as they explore a new tradition — celebrating other holidays! — while April realizes this could cost her everything. Especially when a murderer decides to spoil the festivities by knocking off Tiny Sparkletoes, an elf of the outspoken kind…

                      A Letter to Three Witches

If you’re looking for a fun, quirky romance for your Halloween reading list, grab a copy of A Letter to Three Witches. The irrepressible humor begins nearly a century ago when Gwen Engel’s great-great-grandfather cast a spell with generational consequences.

The Grand Council of Witches forbade his family from practicing thereafter, but the Watchers, planted by the Council, can’t keep a good witch down, especially not this trio of witches whose love lives are out of control and need some help that only magic can provide.

Described as “Practical Magic meets Bewitched”, this goofy rom-com will keep you in stitches all the way through.

                      Halloween Party Murder

Another Halloween tale set in small-town Maine, Halloween Party Murder comes from long-established cozy mystery writer Leslie Meier. I’ve been reading her books for years and can always recommend them! They’re fun, cozy, and creative, with a murderous twist.

Nestle into Tinker Cove as new residents Ty and Heather Moon convert their Victorian home into a haunted house for a charity fundraiser. Before long, mysteries abound with troubles like tainted drugs and a murder. And Lucy Stone, local journalist, must uncover the sinister plots and the perpetrator before it’s too late…

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches

Described as one of the coziest reads of the year, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches uplifts the reader while playing in the wonder of fantastical storytelling and romance. If you love enchanting settings you’re going to love this book.

One of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon, must hide her magical abilities and keep her identity secret while straying away from the others like herself. If they blend, danger could end everything good for them — including their lives! The now-grown orphan must cope with loneliness and growth until she discovers safety in the online world.

Now, she can openly proclaim her reality as she “pretends” to be a witch for the world to watch. How could it go wrong? No one would ever suspect…! But of course, someone does.

Death of a Halloween Party Monster

Local columnist, Hayley Powell, has decided to host a Halloween Bash for her co-workers and friends. But when everyone shows up to watch their favorite monster movies — while dressed up as characters from The Bride of Frankenstein, Jaws, and other ghoulish films — they discover the bludgeoned body of Boris Candy all dressed up as Pennywise from It.

Read Death of a Halloween Party Monster to join Hayley as she aims to solve the whodunnit while still hosting the perfect party.

                      Small Town, Big Magic

When October hits, our minds start turning to witchy wonders and magical pathways to the unknown. And in Small Town, Big Magic Emerson Wilde has built her dream business in St. Cyprian, where an indie bookstore owner can thrive. But a mysterious creature attacks and kills one night and Emerson realizes her perfect life isn’t quite so perfect.

She embarks on the journey to magic when she discovers her life of the past decade was all a lie, and this place isn’t as typical small-town America as she thought…

This charming witchy rom-com is full of found family, with a slow-burn romance for the Chosen One.

The Haunting of Whitehall Manor – An Audio Book

From a best-selling horror author comes the creepy tale of Gothic suspense: The Haunting of Whitehall Manor. Anne Towry, thirty-three and nearly clueless about her family and past, was sent away from Whitehall Manor when she was only ten years old. Now, she receives an urgent call from Dr. Cornish telling her that the mother she never knew has gone missing and it’s up to Anne to figure out why.

Coming to her childhood home changes everything for Anne, and the longer she’s there, the more reality shifts. Going through her mother’s journal reveals more than she could have imagined about who she is, why she was sent away, and what dark secrets the family and this terrifying manor holds.

                      Pumpkin Spice Café

Hygge up in the small town of Dream Harbor with a cuppa something sweet and spicy at the Pumpkin Spice Café. Here you’ll meet Jeanie who delights in trading her dull desk job to take on the gift of this delectably themed café from her aunt.

It’s not just a new job that awaits the small-town newbie. Jeanie soon discovers that her happy-go-lucky attitude butts heads with grumpy and good-looking Logan whose take on life as a local farmer doesn’t embrace change.

Sip your pumpkin spice latte and cocoa, and find out how a dark-and-light romance might bloom between them.
