Celebrating Two Years of the MockingOwl Roost: A Look at What We’ve Done
Happy new year and welcome to year 3 of the MockingOwl Roost’s life! It was exactly two years ago that our first issue was published: Expectation. And the expectations we have had for this magazine have been shattered by all of you in these 2 years!
To celebrate, we thought a little peek into what we’ve done as a community might be an encouraging step into the next year and the new phases to come at the MockingOwls. We’re excited to see what else lies ahead with you, the family of MockingOwls, as we continue writing, editing, producing, recording, and publishing amazing works.

During these 2 years, we have published writers and artists from 6 continents and subcontinents and 20+ countries.
For the year to come, we have many exciting things on the horizon, as well! We already have plans for:
- Publication of 2 poetry books by Sue Cook, artist-in-residence of the MockingOwl Roost
- Publication of 1 audiobook – Three-Eight Charlie, the true story of Jerrie Mock, first woman to fly solo around the world
- Publication of 2 rock ‘n roll biographical fiction novels by editor-in-chief Rita Mock-Pike
- Publication of All the Colors, a special issue of the MockingOwl Roost (Feb 14)
- Publication of Unknown & Unseen, the first triannual PDF magazine of 2023 (Apr 15)
- Publication of Overcoming, triannual PDF magazine (Aug 15)
- Publication of Unexpected Delights, triannual PDF magazine (Dec 15)
- We have commissioned more than 100 pieces to publish on the blog between now and July 10
- Release of our first full-production audio drama
- Release of at least 20 poetry readings and spoken word performances
- Live performances
- Audio interviews with well-known artists and actors
- Release of our first music production
- Launch of the MockingOwl Creatives interactive community groups
