My World
“You’ll never find another.”
“Oh, I will, just you wait and see!”
“My gentleman, this woman fancies herself an explorer of new worlds – how amusing!” A deep, low humming and grumbling of men dressed in fine waistcoats and alabaster shirts echoed through the room.
“Just you wait and see.” I muttered through gritted teeth. Why must he always make such a show?
This wasn’t the first time he had broken my fragile heart. And this wasn’t the first time he had
caused such pain that made me want to abandon the life of the living and curl up in a ball. The modern world was much more comforting when it came to breakups, but I couldn’t bear to go back to that world he had discovered. I was a woman of the 19th century – the deep dark past – and I didn’t want to be dragged into my own past, which I suppose is more like the future.
I just needed to get home, to a place of peace, where silence wasn’t to be broken. Close my eyes.
Count to ten, and let my imaginative juices begin flowing. 1… 2… 3… 4…
Rainbows flew from the drops of dew in the morning light. Delicate wisps of mist lingered daintily
Upon the mountain tops, light reflected on the rippling water. A faint whisper was carried along the placid breeze “You want me… You need me…”
No, I don’t need that voice in my head. I needed to be free. And free I was in this world – my world. The year of this world I couldn’t tell you, because it feels like an old friend from eternity where the joy was timeless. The beauty of it didn’t want to be savored for only a lifetime.
