breakfast in bed on a tray - Saturday Morning Cartoons - Positivity Corner

Remember when you were a kid and you’d wake up early just to get in those cartoons on Saturday mornings? You’d grab a bowl of Cap’n Crunch or Cookie Crisp and nosh mindlessly as you sang the theme to Animaniacs or cheer on the Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers. Maybe you’d watch reruns of The A-Team or tune into wrestling – whatever your indulgence was (not that you understood it as such back then).

Well, recently, my husband and I started enjoying Saturday morning cartoons again. I get up and run to the grocery (if I forgot to shop the night before), and I get out the tiny waffle maker my mother-in-law gave to us.

Thirty minutes later, we gobble down blueberry chia waffles and chorizo or Ube Mochi pancakes with homemade turkey “sausage” and play a few episodes of the new Ducktales starring some of our favorite actors (David Tenant, Danny Pudi, Catherine Tate, Toks Olagundoye, Paget Brewster, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Kate Micucci). Or we get nostalgic and play the cartoons we used to watch as kids, finding a delightful bond, despite never meeting until we were well into adulthood. Or we’ll return to one of our new “classics” like Gravity Falls.

It may sound simple, possibly silly, but it’s been an amazing bright spot in our weeks. We’re working full-time, adulting all week. But when the cartoons come on, there are no bills to pay, no deadlines over our heads, no doctor’s appointments to worry about. Just time to enjoy ourselves together, when nobody else gets to “cut in”, except maybe our cat. She loves Gravity Falls, so, you know. We let her chill at the foot of the bed and turn her nose up at authentic maple syrup poured over waffles.
