The MockingOwl Roost is expanding our team of volunteer Staff in several areas!
Volunteering with the MockingOwls doesn’t prevent you from also continuing to contribute your pieces, be they written, visual art, or performance-based. In fact being on our Staff makes submissions much easier, as you’ll be automatically included among our Staff processes for the duration of your involvement with us!
For general team requirements, we’re looking for individuals who:
- As a group, represent a wide range of stories and life experiences.
- Have a solid attention to detail.
- A willingness to grow, learn new skills, and adhere to our chosen Style Guide and general directives.
- Can communicate professionally, consistently, and compassionately, with as little personal bias as possible.
- Have a passion for editing, proofreading, designing layout imagery, and/or creating social media posts that will generate more interest toward our site.
- The ability to work and communicate with as little bias as possible. The pieces we publish will always fall within MOR's values, but you will at times be expected to work with pieces that come from a different viewpoint or experience than your own.
- Have a minimum of 2-6 hours free to spend working with us each month, depending on the team.
For specific roles, we're looking for individuals who meet the details per team.
Copy Editors
Thank you for your interest in editing for the MockingOwl Roost! We have received far more applications than we anticipated and so have closed this posting.
Proofreaders
- Full proficiency in English and familiarity with its many rules.
- A solid attention to detail. Having a natural "proofreader's eye" is a plus!
Layout Team
Thank you for your interest in editing for the MockingOwl Roost! We have received far more applications than we anticipated and so have closed this posting.
Web & Socials Team
- At least a base-line level of internet and tech savviness.
- A working knowledge of WordPress is preferred but not required.
- A working knowledge of how the various social media sites operate is preferred but not required.
- Individuals who already have personal or public social media accounts are preferred, but we're happy to welcome any who are looking to expand their public side to help drive MOR's visibility.
Does any of that sound like you? If so, we’d love to consider your application!
Below you’ll find forms for each of the four Teams we’re hoping to augment. Each form has a few differences depending on the Team. To save you time on the form, please make sure to have ready:
- An extended bio of 300-500 words, preferably related to the subject of the form, so we can get a feel for your strengths and personality.
- For Designers: 3 examples of your artistry, provided via link. You can upload photos to a personal GoogleDrive account to share if needed.
- For Websters (Blog & Social Media): Links to social media accounts you own or help to manage.
- Proofreaders will have 3 short tests to do in-form, so those might take a few extra minutes.
Each form should take 10-15 minutes. Responses are limited to one per form, so you’ll need to have a valid google account to sign in with. Be aware that we will only approve any single person for a maximum of two volunteer positions — any more than that, and we would be concerned about engaging too much of your time. We’ll give you an opportunity in-form to note your highest preferences, but we reserve the right to make our decisions based on the information you provide.
We look forward to reading your applications and welcoming you to the MockingOwl Roost!
