I cried to the moon goddess, Nyx, as the night began to wane.
“Goddess can you hear me?
The night is cold, and I need a guide —
One who will fill the path with light and power.”
The moon remained quiet,
Laughing silently at my torment.
Her light shone about me,
Flashing as she teased her pet:
No words, more waiting in the void.
All Hallows’ Eve passed five times before she spoke again.
A windswept day, a ringing phone —
“Come!” they cried.
“Meet the one the moon has chosen.”
Never did I expect to meet the goddess herself.
Sleek, black, gentle to the touch.
She paced around me on four paws
Assessing her possibilities.
Having found me to her liking, she nodded to the staff.
“Away.”
More waiting.
Time passed like a clock with one hand—
My heart silently waiting for her summons to shock its stillness to life.
Six weeks —
eternity.
The shrill cry of the phone delivered her into my keeping.
I wonder. Will it be difficult caring for a goddess?
