Fair Rosemarie

She sits in quiet disbelief
at the table where cards are spread,
offering her but scant relief
from the sense of coming dread.
The Nine of Swords, the Tower, and Death
lay there, face up, for all to see
upon the white lace table cloth
in the home of fair Rosemarie.
A dark cloud drifts across the sun
as long shadows crawl from the walls,
she buries her head in her hands
as crystal tears start to fall.
A fox barks once to call its mate,
a raven croaks in a distant tree,
then silence falls a heavy veil
in the home of fair Rosemarie.
