Woodland Magic

Beneath a rotting log where shadows dwell,
In moist dark chambers hidden from the sky,
Two centipedes rise from their earthen cell,
Like underworld kings that will not yield nor die.
Their long red bodies writhe in knotted twist,
Poisoned fangs extend to test for seam,
Each plated length coils tight in burning tryst,
A primal clash — no witness hears them scream.
No evil lives within their ancient art,
No malice guides the fury of the fray,
But will to conquer beats in every heart,
And through the slain, the living find their way.
