Decorations

It’s close to Easter, so I opened the door to
the storage space under the steps
where we keep the boxes of decorations.
There’s at least twenty boxes for Christmas,
four for Easter, three for Thanksgiving and Halloween,
and just part of a box for Valentine’s Day.
Not much for love and nothing
for all the other special days.
What about Martin Luther King Jr. Day,
St. Patrick’s Day, President’s Day,
Memorial Day, Labor Day,
Flag Day, Veteran’s Day,
and all the other days created
by the greeting card companies like
Bosses’ Day, Grandparents’ Day,
Father’s Day, Mother’s Day?
Enough with all these days.
I don’t have enough room
on my calendar for each one.
I’ll make each day special
as I remember all the things
that have been done by the
persons who have made the world better:
the scientists, the leaders,
the explorers, the workers.
The list goes on, and each day I look at my calendar,
glad for these events
and the ones to come,
but as for decorations,
I’ll keep them in boxes this year.
Want to give some love to the other special days? Try some of these works out!
