Late Christmas
Image by Annie Spratt from Unsplash
It is the middle of March
and a five-foot evergreen tree
lays flat on top of a garbage container.
At first glance, it appears to be
a tree from Christmas.
Second thought says this cannot be.
Next glance confirms the previous thought,
no tinsel,
needles not brown,
most of the needles still on the branches,
yet the Christmas thought still lingers.
Can it be?
I look into the sky,
cloud cover,
it shows no light.
