Dread-Mind
Ace Boggess
Almost time, always time
to go somewhere,
do whatever,
though I’d rather wait here longer,
sending smiles
like letters to the editor
from my windowless
basement,
self-imposed imprisonment.
I like it here
where it’s quiet
my heartbeat never quickens
at the thought of strangers,
my meek attempts to greet them.
I fear them:
not assassins,
more shadow demons
built by anxieties.
Enjoy the company
until I have to say hello.
