Enough

I can’t sleep tonight
Babies are in cold storage instead of beds
Thoughts and prayers roll off apathetic lips
Blood on floors and walls
Two women lose their future
Thoughts and prayers uttered like a chant
Classrooms become battlefields
Thoughts and prayers muttered by hypocrites
How many children must die
How many lives does the god of the AR15 require
How many teachers must act as human shields
When does the cry enough fall on open ears
Maybe more thoughts and prayers will do the trick
I am tired of death
I can’t stand to hear another round of
thoughts and prayers
When will it be my family
When will I hear screaming in the halls
Hide under a table in the dark
See red splatter the walls
When will some fool utter thoughts and prayers over my grave
I can’t sleep tonight, or ever.
