Old Friends

Image created on Canva
You dig deep,
flip through snapshots of memories
to find me.
I’m here,
cut from the same dough
as people you know now.
I’m in their eyes,
their laughter,
their gestures.
You will see me
when the windblown blossoms
detach from their stems.
I’ll be replaced by new blooms
of a more vibrant pink
than I can ever be to you.
So stop searching for me,
as the scented breeze
has taken me too far
to return to our past lives.
