Autumn Moon Festival
Image created on Canva
Under the autumn moon,
An altar sits
In your garden,
Dried herbs
Freshly picked apples
A handful of fall leaves
And a bowl of water — an offering to the grandmother moon.
She belongs to you,
The Anishinaabe people,
The sky and the earth.
In October
You dance to the sound of drums
You pray and sing
Into the vast marble slate
Sky.
In the middle,
She is luminous
Piercing the darkness,
Her left eye,
Mare Imbrium
Watches over you
As you hold up your water vessel
To her mouth
In the night sky.
