Aubade Longing for a Nocturne
Image created on Canva
Every single morning,
as the day begins with flocks of
birds waking and warbling along
the full length of
the sky’s horizon, all I
can carol about is how
many hours I’ve got to wait
to get to the bespeckled fantastic
night offers — a starry stage
set-designed new on
each occasion as if the display of
the universe does possess
the potential distance gives us —
a duration longer than
the amount the minutes are
wrong on my wound wristwatch.
Sometimes it’s fast, sometimes
it’s catching up from behind.
