                      The causeway is awash in jeweled light;
                      tide’s barely audible, snow-foam white.
                      Air’s pearl-strung with tears of salt and husks
                      of hibiscus. Low lying clouds extend dusk
                      like an oilcloth across the western
                      horizon, colors slowly lessening
                      and I can sense something
                      more than the coming on of night
                      and a darker silence, while
                      ominous sea birds rise eerily from nests.
                      Wind’s falling away and does little to suppress
                      the absolute and ungodly emptiness
                      that lingers inside me. A halo of light
                      from a pilgrim moon rises to a height
                      where uprisen stars are soon extinguished.

                      A square image with a surreal, mysterious, and contemplative aesthetic, designed for a poetry collection. The photograph features a man standing with his back to the viewer in a grassy, misty field, facing multiple closed doors of varying colors and sizes, scattered across the landscape. Each door has a different symbol on it (e.g., coffee beans, a spider, a stylized crest, a lightning bolt, a human eye). The lighting is soft and golden, suggesting early morning or late afternoon sunbeams cutting through the fog.
