The Fool

Somewhere nearby
A pigeon coos
A sinuous speech above me
As I lie sprawled on my bed
Near the windowpane
Where sunlight still spells warmth
Outside a fish seller on wheels
Cries out his wares
That are alive and twirling
In murky man-made
Waters
Just then
Summer bid me adieu
Its footsteps receding
Into a freezing departure
I am at once
The fish’s eyes
Lying sideways in a tub
In a heaving van, endlessly
Looking at the sky
