Stash Southern Peach Tea: A Teatime Review with Rita

I grew up in the South, literally able to walk to Georgia from my house in Florida. We often drove the half hour up to markets along the roadside to grab some Georgia peaches. My husband, Matt, grew up in Chilton County Alabama, also renowned for their peaches. We knew we’d be tough critics for Stash’s Southern Peach Tea.
A couple of months ago, when I discovered the tea, I ordered a large bag of the loose leaf tea, figuring if I hated it, I could mete it out into small gift bags and offer the Southern Peach Tea to my guests. I often buy loose leaf in bulk, as it’s cheaper than smaller tins. It’s always a little risky, but I rarely regret it.
The First Cup
When the bag arrived, I put the kettle on, served the tea into three mugs for the family to try, and enjoyed the aroma as the tea steeped.
Matt, who I knew would be the biggest critic because of those Chilton County Peaches, got the first cup. He wouldn’t be a make or break for me, but at least I’d know what I was getting into. I can’t say he was awed but I can say he was surprised. “It’s actually good!”
Mom and I enjoyed our mugs full, as well, noting that the tea indeed tastes like sweet, southern peaches.
Flavor Profile
Stash’s Southern Peach Tea is a black tea infused with ribbons of dried calendula petals and “natural peach” and “orange passion fruit” flavors. This means that the tea doesn’t contain actual peach pieces, but is an herbal-infused black tea that has been flavored. This is known as a flavored tea.
The florals add a texture to the flavoring that the black tea could not have on its own, but the natural flavorings are what bring out the peach taste. And it does truly taste like southern peaches.
My Impressions
The southern peach tea is a new favorite in our household. It’s one I drink a few times a week for my morning tea on the patio. I don’t want it every day so that it maintains its “treat” status, but otherwise I would have no issues drinking a cup a day.
Service Recommendations
Southern Peach tea is a great choice as a solo cup of tea in the morning or afternoon, but it also pairs particularly well with pastries and with ice cream. I would recommend it as a cold brew tea or iced tea. You can add a dash of sugar, if you’re a fan of that, or leave plain.
For a dessert tea modification, go heavy on the tea, then add some milk and honey or mix your Southern Peach tea with some Pecan Praline tea (review below) for an extra dessert-y oomph.
