Alan Hlad artfully writes a well-researched, captivating story of love, loss, and fighting for human life that will leave you breathless. He thoughtfully and respectfully weaves his story through real life events, based on real individuals, during the last years of the war. This is a book where the heroine is as willy, intelligent, and kind as she is beautiful. The hero chooses the lives of others over his own security. They cared more about a happy ending for mankind than their own hearts, like so many of the people they represent.

I feel that both Jack, (and the trilogy) should become classic holiday reading material. The Spirit of Christmas lives in these novels.

She finds herself agreeing to a staged betrothal in exchange for the Duke’s help. He gets protection from ring-seeking ladies while she has protection as she investigates to clear her sister’s name. It doesn’t take the entire week for more than one truth to be exposed.

Overall, The Forger’s Forgery is an exciting, intriguing literary fiction novel that keeps a reasonably quick pace, as long as you’re not expecting an action or thriller. The characters are vivid and memorable (even after a couple month gap at one point, the characters were still extremely present for me, even if the plot needed reminders!).

We’ve all had moments of wanting to run away. At age 81, Bernice actually does it. Bernice has had her fair share of struggles in life, but overall, has been fairly content with her life in small-town Arkansas, where she was born, raised, and plans to someday die. She receives a rude-awakening when her daughter Sarah decides for Bernice that it’s time to sell everything and move into Sarah’s backyard bungalow in Atlanta. So, she packs her car to the brim with her cat Dolly Parton, essential books, and heads out.

I got caught up in the storytelling and let Kitty and the Minister lead me through a sleepless night until I finished the book. I pulled an all-nighter because I had to know the outcome of the story, even though I essentially knew the outcome of the story.

The Gold Persimmon by Lindsay Merbaum is riveting and surreal. At times, I found myself so caught up in the characters' actions that it actually took my breath away, and had me yelling at my Kindle. This book was not what I was expecting from its title.

The most startling portions of Hell Town are true. Let that sink in. I am not easily made nauseous by true crime, but this was brutal. Casey Sherman’s writing style, and description of the events are both brilliant, and nightmare-ish.
