I’m nervous about crossing the bridge
at the back of Crown Point North
leading to the centre of Denton
whether it is raining or sunny
like I’m nervous about reading
The new book by Paul Auster
and wondering whether it will top
his previous book or be a miserable failure.
Turning on my laptop every Monday
and seeing what has gone wrong
over the weekend
with my job.
Sitting at Bradford Interchange
after we’ve been to visit Amanda’s family
and we are both sat there thinking
is this coach going to turn up?
Having to face the doctors
and the rest of my fifties
in the face.
How good will the new album be
by the Black Dog?
Will Amanda love me
in ten years let alone next week?
Are Aldi’s branflakes
as good as Morrisons?
It’s nine months to Christmas.
Will my next poem
be as good as my last
and will the bus turn up on time
when we are going to go and see
Ruth at All FM Radio?
My body becoming divorced
from my life
the older I get with Diabetes.
Seeing Amanda’s mum
struggle with her eyesight
clearly needing Surgery
And full well knowing
I’m going to get that
in less than ten years.
Living with Dyspraxia.
