Glass Shell – a Poetry Reading
I’ve never unhinged the door
to invite in the light of reason,
always incurious, cemented in
my own world unless someone
comes, absorbed in the waves
of my own heartbeat with
nothing to trouble me inside
my glass shell as long as I have
my art to lose myself in, the age
of geraniums all around me,
comfort wrapping me like a quilt;
the daytime so quiet, the beauty
of red blossoms, the scent of
them outdoors and in my home.
My idyllic life a pleasant fool’s
paradise, nothing to shatter my
mind unless my glass ceiling
should ever crack – a dark wind
spilling in, and I let out ragged,
broken sighs.
