So many people go bonkers every fall when pumpkin spice whatevers (insert favorite food/drink/smell/etc) hit the shelves. I can appreciate it, but that isn’t what gets to me. Fall is when I know the countdown can begin for when my favorite seasonal thing is released: the peppermint mocha coffee.
I love all things peppermint. Maybe it is due to memories or the holiday season. My dad always carried peppermints in his pockets when I was a kid. Grandma always had candy canes on her Christmas tree. I’m always snagging those soft peppermint candies from candy bowls. They’re ridiculously addictive. Plus, I mean, chocolate is life, right?
I’m obsessed enough that I don’t just buy it from the overrated, overpriced, yet addictive coffee shop every year. (Man, those mobile orders make it way too convenient!) I have tried multiple home options. They rarely have that same balance of peppermint and chocolate flavor that I enjoy. I prefer it stronger on the peppermint side.
I finally found a great version for my Keurig machine. But even those are in limited seasonal supply. I literally ordered 5 boxes from Amazon last December. I made a cup once a week until the supply ran out.
I’ll probably change it up this year. I think I will save a box of candy canes to stick in it. It’s my lazy Saturday morning treat. Another fun spin is to add a touch of Godiva chocolate liquor for an evening treat. Definitely worth a try if that’s your thing.
I was finally able to order my first peppermint mocha coffee of the season just the other day. I didn’t expect it to be released yet so I was pleasantly surprised. I’m pretty sure I literally squealed in happiness!
It’s an amazing feeling to hold the first cup. The warmth oozes from the initial grasp of my hand into my wrist. I close my eyes and take a deep breath which refreshes my lungs and immediately brings all the happy emotions.
As I savor my first sip I feel my body immediately relax in the moment, easing my worries of the day. It’s amazing how one little drink can change my mindset for the day. What is your favorite seasonal flavor?
