Morning Rains

I swerve and swing down tar road glens —
poplar built, storm-breath wet
that brim with bark and coffee, melt
fjords that flood Earth’s marrow.
The Sky’s touch softens brawny earth
green torn from moss-brick-mortar dirt —
She stoops to kiss the crown she birthed
in drizzling blues and yellows.
I clutch and wade down star-lined nights —
wheels churning smoke-grey coal combusts
to ashes, ashes, dust to dust;
She catches, nimbus’s swallow.
She breathes, I breathe, and in turn complete
reflecting mirrors, child and mother —
lighter, darker, Soul; together
remember the city’s lost sparrows.
