Hello Again, Autumn! - A poetry reading by Perri Dodgson, performed by Sue Cook - image of autumn leaves in oranges, reds, and yellows, at back, with a dark orange-red square stacked on top, with another layer now with autumn woods scenery, then finally a triangle-shaped image of a cabin on a lake at autumn

Hello again Autumn. I thought it was you.
When I opened the windows like I always do
The curtains went wild, dancing into the room.
Arms sprouting goosebumps, I closed them up soon.

The house is so quiet now, no birds sweetly singing
I put on some music to drown out the ringing,
in my head. I need air. Not long, I soon miss
the light dappled shadows, the sun’s gentle kiss.

Hazy mist mornings come dampen the earth
Squirrels make plans to hide nuts in the turf
Washing lines empty, and wind whistles tunes.
Long-legged spiders build webs in your rooms.

But your palette of colour brings glory each year,
Long walks in the woods are what we hold dear
Gold and bronze flickering on leaves from the sky.
Ruby red carpet, crunching gems from up high.

The aroma of wood chopped up ready for burning
Cosy chair by the fire, latest book pages turning
A mug of hot chocolate, it’s cold in the street
Halloween is coming, decide trick or treat!

Big, bulging pumpkins lollop over the floor,
and burgers and buns fill the grocery store
Bonfires and fireworks, trained firemen deploy
So Autumn is here once again, let’s enjoy!
