Over the summer, Netflix released the movie KPop Demon Hunters that has the world by storm. The movie was released in June and from the moment it came out, people haven’t stopped talking about it.

Sony Pictures Animation, known largely for the Spider-verse franchise, paired this fantastic film with an incredible soundtrack. And, thanks to this awesome combo, KPop Demon Hunters has become so popular that it’s become Netflix’s most-watched title, outweighing the ever-popular Squid Game.

KPop Demon Hunters (2025): Singers by day, Demon Hunters by Night

KPop Demon Hunters follows the girl group Huntr/x, made up of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. By day, they’re idols adored for their music and dazzling performances. By night, they transform into warriors, battling demons sent by the ruthless ruler Gwi-Ma, who hungers for human souls.

To protect humanity, the girls channel the power of music to maintain the Honmon, a mystical barrier that keeps the demons sealed away. But when the cunning demon Jinu inspires Gwi-Ma to form a rival K-pop boy band the Saja Boys, Huntr/x faces their most dangerous challenge yet before they lose everything that they worked for.

Kpop Demon Hunters (2025): What Makes it So Good?

There are plenty of reasons this movie has captured everyone’s attention. It performed so well on Netflix that the platform decided to give it a limited theatrical run, and in just one weekend, it earned an impressive $18 to $20 million at the box office.

While the plot and animation are major highlights, the music has also played a huge role in the film’s success. According to Variety, the track “Golden” from the soundtrack has spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking the longest-running top spot for any animated act in the chart’s history.

The songs continue to break records, and the movie is still being rewatched and talked about nonstop. There’s already early buzz about a possible sequel, and even the potential for a full franchise.

Although Netflix and Sony haven’t officially confirmed anything yet, the film’s overwhelming popularity makes this the perfect opportunity for both companies to expand on its success. But only time will tell.
