She Stole My Stars…
She hovered, talons poised, with an easy skill and practiced eye,
always ready to peck the stars from out my sky.
She stopped to pluck the tender notes from every melody
and cawed discordant words into my each attempt at poetry.
She tore my wings; she pinned me to the ground.
She poured her song into my thoughts, smothering every other sound.
I believed for years that I was well away,
but decades taught me that I was still her prey.
Her voice, in me, has blighted all the truths I sought to know,
so it seems, as I’ve never managed to forget, I must learn, somehow, to let go.
