The ABCs of Spring in the North

Image created onCanva
Another spring arrives
Bringing
Chives and
Dandelions
Echelon and
Fiddlehead ferns. The
Gifts emerging from the earth
Help heal the dark
Inner dives of winter, erasing
January’s doldrums and replacing it with
Kingfisher’s staccato call.
Light brings us out of winter’s shadows as we
Move out to the garden to harvest
Nettles. We
Open the windows to release the cobwebs of winter.
Perhaps it is necessary, all of that darkness, forcing us to look within and
Question and
Reflect, so we can be born again on a
Spring day, laced with sunshine and sweet, sticky cottonwood buds, as we
Tell the hummingbird our secrets and joys,
Understanding our connection to the cycles better while
Valuing ourselves and each other more as we emerge from our winter homes and
Welcome back the whales, the
Xoots (brown bear in Tlingit), the
Yarrow and those
Zipping mosquitoes.
