Christus Resurrexit!

Image created on Canva
One late afternoon.
with crucifixion complete,
body taken down
for friends to collect;
Women washed, anointed, wrapped
him in a white cloth,
laid his crumpled corpse
inside a rock-hewn hill-cave
to repose in peace.
Their lives in turmoil,
their Master, dead and buried.
What were they to do?
For two days, they mourned.
Third day early, at sunrise,
woman searched for tomb,
bumps into gardener
He speaks to her. She listens
not knowing the Lord
risen from the dead.
He is risen from the dead!
Risen from the dead?
She ran away scared
to let the disciples know
the body was gone.
At once, Peter knew.
John the Beloved, believed,
ran fast up the hill.
Peter followed him
into a now empty grave.
Greeted by angels,
their voices as one:
He is risen from the dead —
Go, find him. He lives!
Our Lord has overthrown death —
It is no more. We are saved.
