Faith and Work
He died and rose for me so I can rise
above all things that make me just a bone
and flesh compound and shift my inner eyes
from earthly stones to that spiritual stone
whose lustre doesn’t fade with time and age.
But every time my lips exalt His rising
and if my heart is intent on the stage
where man performs his worthless plays, disguising
his true self, I reject the trials He faced
for our salvation. Though it’s said the thief
towards His right received redemptive grace
through faith alone, his time on earth was brief,
but mine is not. I’ve years to elevate
my soul apart from stepping through faith’s gate.
