Yuletide. Lyrics by Lorelei Greenwood-Jones. Melody by Rita Mock-Pike. Performed by Rita Mock-Pike.
Gentle music fills our ears—
As carolers sing their songs of cheer
We bid them enter to warm up
With cakes and hot tea in a cup.
Steaming mugs of holiday tea
Send plumes of white twixt you and me
As we enjoy our winter day
While watching squirrels leap and play.
Outside the window, snow lies deep
As Earth enjoys her yearly sleep.
And shining candles on the sill
Are staving off the winter chill.
This Yuletide Eve as stars arise,
We look about with children’ s eyes
Remembering the Yule of old,
Of trees and gifts and winters cold.
And all the treats these glad days bring
And sledding, skating, caroling—
We pity folks in southern climes
Who’ve no idea of colder times.
The tree is bright with ornaments
And of the gifts, we’ve only hints
Of what’s inside these presents gay—
Yes, we must wait ‘til Yuletide Day.
