Our lives are too brief to be taken before
we find you hovering near, before we
learn who we are or achieve glory
in the system you created or reach
beyond ourselves into a universe as
uncaring as you. Leave us as hopeless and
clueless creatures on this one of many rocks
to shuffle in the soil of our dead.

William Allegrezza teaches at Indiana University Northwest, runs the press Moria Books, and edits the webzine Moss Trill.
