Her Roses

And the roses sang,
their song rose, they sang
as the pale couple walked
along a path framed by color
and the wafting fragrance
of ambition. The roses, they
were her roses, and the roses
sang, their song rose as the couple
talked, and wept; she, of loss,
and he of Empires, and both spoke
in hushed tones that conversed
about love littered with thorns.
And when they left the garden
path and returned to Mal Mason,
the petals of the roses were
damp with dew and tears, as
the roses sang, they sang of
Josephine and her Napoleon.
