I call a friend
after sipping pinot grigio,
invite him over
for a movie.
He misunderstands,
assumes I want sex
since we were lovers years ago.
“You want someone to move into your world,” he says,
“But, I want someone to move into mine.”
I don’t correct him,
a movie and a friendly face
are all I want.
It’s Valentine’s Day,
don’t want to be alone,
so hang up phone
close my eyes.
Fall into fitful sleep
dream of a man, unnamed,
not him.
Not Michael.
