Runs Deep

The pain runs deep.
Shielded from the surface,
not wanting cracks to show.
The pressure to remain perfect,
an expectation from many,
yet out of my control.
The tears of one that fell hard,
hoping to replace the years of drought,
knowing it won’t break the surface.
Looking longingly to the sky,
hoping the one prayer will be answered,
otherwise, I will not be able to hold on.
Days pass by,
hope dwindling away,
wishing for a black sky.
Head in hands,
you hide from the pain of the world,
yet unaware of impending change.
A rolling crack snaps through the silence.
I shake in anticipation,
hoping it foreshadows my fate.
Thousands of tears fall from above,
easing the pain that pulled me apart,
washing away years of heartache.
Your lungs are filled,
filled with the sweet smell of redemption
whilst my heart can now beat another day.
