Drop Dead Daisy – Fiction Book Review

Drop Dead Daisy by Juanita Millhouse, is the second book in the series of spiritually uplifting romantic novels centered around rock music, “For the Love of Music.” Although Nobody’s Girl centers around Tess and the Four Jays and Drop Dead Daisy focuses on a new band and group of characters, the Jays are woven into the fringes of this novel, linking the two together. 

The first time the reader meets the main protagonists, Daisy and Kane, they are getting ready for their first date. Two musicians, lead guitarists from two different bands, set out on a date that will spark a romance lasting for several decades. 

Daisy is amazing on the guitar and a genius at songwriting. Kane is the same. Standing close to six feet tall, Daisy casts an imposing figure. Kane becomes obsessed with her and her music. 

This book is a refreshing, yet a hard hitting Christian romance. It is not the kind of romantic tale you find on the Hallmark Channel. It’s a gritty, in-your-face love peppered with obsession, anger, and guilt. Drop Dead Daisy deals with adult subjects in a realistic, yet sympathetic manner. It is for grown-ups, but is not erotica.

I found myself very drawn into the story. It had me weeping as I read the chapters. Their world became very personal.  I have had friends deal with the same subjects that plagued Daisy and Kane. 

Juanita was brave to allow her characters to go through the kinds of trials that challenged them. The rise and fall of their lives can be found throughout our society. Some may find this book cathartic. Together with Nobody’s Girl, this book is a powerhouse of emotion. 

If you love music and are a fan of Christian romance, this book is for you. The book is filled with amazing lyrics. There is only one downside: the book didn’t come with a CD! I wish  we could hear the lyrics as they are meant to be played. I would enjoy hearing Drop Dead Daisy as an audiobook with the music, as well as reading the book. 

Drop Dead Daisy will make you think hard about life choices. It is not just some sweet little love story. It is a love story that may help save somebody’s life. I do not say this lightly. I highly recommend this book. 

The “For the Love of Music” stories will break your heart, lift your soul, and possibly save your life, whether you read them together or separately.
