Journey

“Today we are going to give you a shot in the–”
I leave my body at that point, and journey into the heavens.
They don’t need my mind to dissect my body
No soul ever cried out for the want of stitches
The mind and soul were too busy
visiting lands of lost forgotten lore
My guides lift me to see what beauty lies in the mist,
while the lights and camera whirl around my corpse.
Funny to call it that, but when the soul journeys out from the body,
What else lies on the table but that which is enduring the cutting?
Like a lamb at the market providing only the choicest meat for observation.
My soul flies to the tips of mountains, the depths of oceans.
Many old – not of this time.
Castles adorn the landscape as my guides make sure
to point out the most beautiful of them all.
Will I fight the king and find the sword in a lake?
Leave the painful landscape of my life behind
for more beautiful lands?
Perhaps, but not today
Light blinds me
Tears filling them as I see my guides recede,
As white surrounds me, filling my sight
Am I glad?
I reach out to touch the last of my guides’ head
as she fades from view
Perhaps
The smile I show the doctors
does not reflect my soul’s desolate screams
