The Leaving
I return home to find my heart sinking slowly into the ground
Where have I lost you?
The beast came and claimed your soul before I could speak words of healing to the winds
releasing you back to our care.
At least one was spared, and to this I scream “Huzzah” to the heavens.
I will not lose another.
Joy mingled with despair brings confusion to my heart.
Why must my hands grip soil before they touch stardust?
