Fall is finally here, and it is time for our October books round up. This month offers a wonderful array of books from indigenous poetry and romantic fantasies to spooky tales.

Romantic Tales

First off, October is the perfect month for weddings. The leaves are in full color, the weather is cool, and beauty is everywhere. This writer fell under October’s spell and was married 26 years ago, at the beginning of the month. Here are suggestions of wonderful romance books to fill those fall days.

  • Cody Bay In: A Chilling October Romance in Nantucket by Amy Rafferty
  • Hunt for Pink October: A Mason Scully Novel, Book One by Peter Abresch

Indigenous People’s Day

The 9th of October this year is Indigenous People’s Day.  Here’s a book selections to help you celebrate the holiday.

  • The Drum That Beats Within Us by Mike Bond
  • The Blessing Way: A Leaphorn and Chee Novel, Book One by Tony Hillerman

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This beast of a killer runs rampant affecting both females and males. It should be eradicated but instead continues to destroy families and lives. Here are several books to lift the reader’s spirits as they approach this grave illness.

  • Dear Friend
  • The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes by Anna McPartlin

Halloween and Samhain

October wouldn’t be October without Halloween and Samhain! These spooky reads are fun and can range from the lighthearted to nonfiction paranormal. We end the month with a wonderful fright.

First you have the zombies

  • Elegy For The Undead by Matthew Vesley

Then the ghosts make their presence known in fiction,

  • Ghost Talker: Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries, Volume One by Byrd Nash
  • Extasia by Claire LeGrand

And finally we’ve got non-Fiction telling us real spooky tales!

  • The Autobiography of My Haunted Life by Katherine McCray

But, of course, I can’t forget vampires for Halloween!

  • The Night Library of Stenendach by Jessica Levai
  • The Vampire Knitting Club by Nancy Warren

And those spooky witches.

  • Go Hex Yourself by Jessica Clare
  • Haunting Charlie by Wendy Wang
  • Charmed: Inherit The Witch

October is the perfect month for such varied topics that it will keep you entertained for the entire month. Please let us know if you enjoy reading any of the suggestions above.

The delight of a good book is a far greater treat than chocolate, with no trick involved! Happy reading.
