Asking questions can lead to a Christmas miracle!

Monday, I was asked to sing the Maginificat for our Christmas Eve service on Friday evening. I am still social-distancing, so our pastor has been wonderful in allowing me to record my music so that she/he may artfully blend it into the live service, creating a simple magic. As this was a spur of the moment request, we discussed various versions of the Magnificat. I really wanted to sing a version I had sung years back which required two women singing a duet.

I decided I would sing a duet with myself which wasn’t so much of an issue as was finding the music. Due to the time constraint, we looked on all sites allowing digital downloads. I began to call friends, other churches, and even had my husband, Randy, searching various sites for church music. With no success.

The piece appeared to be out of print. As I began to look at alternative music, Randy did one more search, and found the composer!

I stared at the message bar, said a quick prayer for courage, and asked the composer if he knew where I could find a copy of his song.

Less than 15 minutes later, he messaged me back and said he would check to see if he could find it. In an hour he had emailed me a copy and the rest is that Christmas magic continued. He was an amazing man, composer, and Santa to this pleading musician.

My pastor was floored that I asked the question that ultimately ended up in a duet which will be shown on Christmas Eve at St. John United Church of Christ’s 5:00 pm Service. It will be live-streamed on FB for any that would like to hear, and the Service will be available for replay on the Church’s Facebook page.

Sometimes asking questions leads to a Christmas miracle, just like mine did!

A cheerful, cartoon-style jester grins with their tongue out, wearing a colorful red, green, and blue jester hat tipped with little gold bells. They’re holding a white sign in front of them, smiling with eyes closed, set against a warm yellow background filled with gentle, swirling lines. A small red owl perches playfully near the edge of the sign, adding to the silly, lighthearted feel of the image. April Fool’s Day TEXT: Paula Frew, Tomfoolery, April Fool’s Day Poetry
